I had scraped one of the rear doors on my new Hyundai Elantra against a parking pillar. The paint from the pillar had rubbed off on the door and there were some minor surface scratches, but there was no noticeable dent. I had assumed this wouldn’t cost me a lot to get removed, but when I asked around for quotes at different places in Sunnyvale and Mountain View, most of them quoted any where between 500-1000, citing the paint for the new metallic gray model as the reason. They believed repainting was necessary.
My dealership (Capitol Hyundai) had recommended me Michael J’s body shop right from the beginning, but I had been lazy earlier trying to find something closer to where I lived. But given the high prices quoted by dealers nearby, I decided to pay a visit to Michael J’s after all. They looked at the paint marks and said they should be able to get it off easily. And in less than ten minutes, they did – there was no sign of paint or scratch, nothing to tell that the door had ever been scraped. And best of all, they didn’t charge me a penny!
